Clockwork Orange Hint! My local radio station just played the Clockwork Orange deal with Carl forward and backward. When played forward it sounds like there is an underlying track that is being played backward so they played the whole thing backward and you could then hear that portion clearly. It says:
"Only fools are enslaved by time and space"
Hmmm, what could this mean?

Hi Splotchie! Good to see you. I created this new forum for in-depth discussions like you just started.
For those who haven't heard it (thanks to DarkUFO for the following links):
Backward Speech
Here is the original video: Room 23

Thanks LostNBlonde, I appreciate your adding the audio/video links. I have no idea how to do that sort of thing.
I hope this topic will appeal to the forum members. It certainly struck me as interesting.
Even if it is ultimately meaningless to the overall plot of Lost, just the fact that the producers go to so much trouble to include little EasterEggs like this is fantastic.

That is a very very good topic!
Just gonna dot down some of the noises that sound familiar:
MSN log in noise
The voice sounds VERY familiar, but can't place it.
The rest is just noise lol.
Sawyers Sidekick- 02-12-2007
I Thought There Was a Noise In There That Sounded Like The Plane Crashing Or The Plane's Engine Running, Like In The Pilot. But Maybe It's Just a Random Noise
Lost in Claire- 02-12-2007
 Your probably right, theres probably about 17384 noises there!
Splotchie- 02-12-2007
I agree with you Sawyer's Sidekick, I thought I heard the engine scream sound too which would indicate to me that this is a newly prepared tape rather than a holdover from the Dharma days.
Lost in Claire- 02-12-2007
I hear it now, well done folks!
rosered- 02-12-2007
Wow! That's interesting. I just googled "only fools are inslaved by time and space" and it gave me nothing that wasn't Lost related.
I agree with Sawyer's Sidekick about the noise. It sounded just like the crash.

In A Clockwork Orange, this method was used in order to get Alex to conform to a social norm. Is this what they were doing with Karl? Were they trying to do behavior modification to get him to act right? Or were they doing something else?
It was mentioned on that other board that both Hanso and DeGroot are in the "film". Why would the Others show Karl images of these two men? Are they trying to get him to follow Hanso/DeGroot or are they possibly breeding an assassin?
Does this all go back to making an ultimate weapon or is something else going on? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Also, if you watch the original video you will see squiggly lines in certain parts (like on the brick wall). What are these squiggles? Is it something that Karl can decipher with those crazy goggles?
Lost in Claire- 02-13-2007
Squiggles are just for show it looks to me, they play it over a picture of Hanso, and to stop it being quite a plain part compared to the rest, they throw in a squiggle (they being the writers)

I'm probably way off base here but I just keep thinking about when Juliette said that Dharma "was a long time ago". I get the feeling that Juliette isn't a part of the Dharma project and never was or meant to be. I think this new group has taken over the property of the Dharma group and is doing significantly different work while using the Dharma leftovers to suit their own needs but not necessarily with a clear understanding of it.
I wonder if the Carl punishment is really nothing more than a Daddy trying to separate his daughter from a person he believes to be unsuitable for her.

I like this idea. I bet the Clockwork Orange room was to mold Karl unti he became totally mindless and would follow whatever orders they gave, and stay away from Alex.
krybabby- 03-20-2007
I was wondering about Carl. Why was Juliet willing to let him so easily go and not Alex? Maybe he is "the breeded assassing"as LostNBlonde stated (ty)! That is soo freaky playing it back wards and getting this weird saying...what does it mean?!!(Tell me the meaning of life)
I wonder if Ethan was brain washed. He was the doc that kidnapped and was capable of killing. He seemed to follow orders.maybe its apart of orintation :?
Sawyers Sidekick- 03-20-2007
Yeah, I Thought Ethan And Goodwin Were Brainwashed Because They Didn't Hesitate To Go To The Losties Camp And Risk Their Lives. Unless This "Jacob" That They Speak Of Is Very, Very Special, Like a God! 8) Or Else They Have No Other Choice And They're Getting Threatened In Some Way.
